The 6.8 Remington SPC or Special Purpose Cartridge is meant to be the solution to the ‘ballistic gap’ between the 7.62 NATO and the 5.56 NATO rounds. The United States Military began the Enhanced Rifle Cartridge Program to find a solution to the diminished terminal performance of the 5.56×45 NATO rounds. The Military wanted a larger round that was more efficient at longer range. The 6.8 SPC could do that, but it could also be used in smaller platforms such as a PDW or Personal Defense Weapon. It was designed and developed between 2002 and 2004 by Remington Arms, the United States Special Operations Command, and the Army Marksmanship Unit.
This Federal 6.8 Remington SPC ammo has the well-known Speer Gold Dot 90 grain copper jacketed soft point bullets loaded into their non-corrosive Boxer primed, heavy walled, reloadable, high polished brass cases. According to Federal, these cartridges have a muzzle velocity of 2604 feet per second, and they push a lot of weight behind them with an impressive 1355-foot pounds of muzzle energy. They come in boxes of 20 rounds with the recognizable Federal White Box packaging. Get yourself a few boxes and take that new 6.8 SPC AR15 to the range today.
NOTE: Due to a minor 1% pressure difference, these rounds are considered “factory seconds” by Federal.
