About the Mauser 98 Action (Without Bulb)

The Mauser 98 Action (Without Bulb) is a post-WWII modification of the Gewehr 98, designed primarily for hunting. Unlike the wartime model, which featured a bulb for faster reloading with stripper clips, this version has a larger mounting surface on the receiver, making it incompatible with older scope mounts. The rifle has a bolt with three locking lugs—two at the front and one at the rear—and includes gas vents for safety. It features a two-row internal box magazine with a detachable floorplate, holding up to five rounds. Additionally, it uses a non-rotating claw-controlled feed extractor for reliable extraction. The receiver is equipped with a bolt-release lever and a three-position safety catch located at the rear of the bolt on the action tang. The receivers based on Mauser 98 design feature four holes for mounting purposes, two on the front and two on the rear mounting surface.

The original version of the rifle was primarily chambered for 7.92x57mm Mauser caliber.

Mounting Instructions

Clean the rifle’s receiver thoroughly with a cleaning fluid, such as acetone, to remove all stains, grease, and oil. Once the surface is clean and dry, verify that the screws fit both the rail and the receiver holes. Before mounting the rail, apply a minimal amount of thread-locking fluid (278 or 648) to the screws, avoiding any contact with the mounting holes. Carefully clean any excess fluid around the rail using the cleaning fluid. Using a torque driver, tighten the screws to the appropriate torque (up to 3 Nm/26.5 in-lbs).
