Hawke Vantage IR 4-12×40 AO Product description

  • Calibre-Specific Rimfire Reticles with Adjustable Objective: Both variants combine a calibre-specific holdover reticle with an adjustable objective (AO) parallax ring covering 9 metres to infinity — a practical pairing for rimfire shooting where target distances vary and precise parallax correction contributes meaningfully to accuracy. The Rimfire .17 HMR (art. no. 14241) features holdover marks calculated for .17 HMR ballistics, calibrated at 12×. The Rimfire .22 WMR (art. no. 14242) provides holdover marks matched to .22 WMR trajectories, also calibrated at 12×. Both allow the shooter to engage targets at known distances using the appropriate holdover mark without turret adjustment.
  • Dual-Colour Illumination with 5 Brightness Levels: Both reticles are illuminated in red and green across 5 brightness levels with off positions between each step, controlled via a stepped rheostat. The dual-colour option allows the shooter to select the aim point colour that provides the best contrast against the current target background and lighting conditions.
  • 4–12× Magnification for Varminting and Rimfire Use: The 4–12× magnification range with a 3× zoom ratio covers the distances where .17 HMR and .22 WMR are most commonly used, with a field of view of 8.7 metres at 100 metres at minimum power for target identification and a 12× upper end — the reference magnification at which both reticles are calibrated — for precise shot placement at the cartridges’ effective ranges.
  • H2 Optical System with 11-Layer Fully Multi-Coated Lenses: The H2 optical system with 11-layer fully multi-coated lenses and 40mm objective delivers consistent light transmission and a clear image across the magnification range. An exit pupil of 10 mm at 4× supports adequate image brightness in varied field conditions.
  • Capped Low-Profile Turrets with 80 MOA Adjustment: The capped, low-profile, resettable turrets provide 80 MOA of elevation and windage adjustment in ¼ MOA click increments, protecting the zero from accidental movement during carry while allowing straightforward adjustment when re-zeroing between ammunition types or target distances.

About the Vantage Series

The Hawke Vantage series is the broadest riflescope lineup in Hawke’s product range, built on the H2 optical system and covering a wide variety of tube diameters, magnification ranges, and reticle configurations at an accessible price point. The range is designed for hunters, target shooters, and recreational shooters who require a reliable, versatile optic without the cost associated with higher-tier optical systems.

All Vantage models feature 11-layer fully multi-coated lenses delivering consistent light transmission across the magnification range. The lineup spans standard 1-inch, 30mm, and 34mm mono-tube chassis, and includes a broad selection of calibre-specific reticle variants — including rimfire and centrefire — as well as general-purpose mil dot and duplex designs. The Vantage IR 4-12×40 AO rimfire variants are specifically designed for .17 HMR and .22 WMR shooters who require higher magnification, a close-to-infinity parallax correction range, and calibre-matched holdover reticles in an illuminated platform.

About the Model (Hawke Vantage IR 4-12×40 AO Rimfire)

The Hawke Vantage IR 4-12×40 AO Rimfire series combines calibre-specific illuminated holdover reticles with an adjustable objective parallax system in a 4–12× platform suited to .17 HMR and .22 WMR varminting and small game hunting. The 4–12× magnification range delivers a field of view of 8.7 metres at 100 metres at minimum power, with a 12× upper end that both provides adequate image resolution for precise shot placement and serves as the reference magnification at which both reticles’ holdover marks are calibrated. Using the scope at 12× ensures each holdover mark corresponds directly to the stated distance for the respective cartridge.

The 40mm objective lens, combined with the H2 optical system and 11-layer fully multi-coated lenses, delivers consistent light transmission and a clear image across the magnification range. An exit pupil of 10 mm at 4× provides adequate image brightness. The 90mm of eye relief is compatible with a range of rimfire and centrefire platforms.

The Rimfire .17 HMR variant (art. no. 14241) features holdover marks positioned to match the trajectory of the .17 HMR cartridge at the calibrated reference magnification of 12×. The Rimfire .22 WMR variant (art. no. 14242) uses holdover marks calculated for the flatter trajectory of the .22 WMR at the same 12× reference. Both reticles are illuminated in red and green with 5 brightness levels and off positions between each step. The AO parallax ring corrects parallax from 9 metres to infinity. The capped, low-profile, resettable turrets provide 80 MOA of adjustment in ¼ MOA click increments. The mono-tube is nitrogen purged and fully sealed, providing waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof performance rated for all calibres. Overall length is 346 mm and weight is 513 g.

About Hawke

Hawke Optics is a British optics brand registered in England and Wales, with products distributed across Europe, North America, and international markets. The company produces a broad range of optical products including riflescopes, airgun scopes, binoculars, spotting scopes, red dot sights, and laser rangefinders, covering applications from hunting and precision shooting to nature observation and marine use.

Hawke organises its riflescope lineup into distinct optical system tiers — from the entry-level H2 through H5 to the flagship H7 — with each tier reflecting the glass specification, coating technology, and mechanical feature level of the products within it. The Vantage series is built on the H2 system, representing the entry level of Hawke’s riflescope range and providing an extensive selection of configurations at an accessible price point.
