Hornady’s Frontier line of ammunition has long provided shooters with a reliable and accessibly priced solution for fun and range training. This 5.56×45 cartridge is produced by Hornady at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, so it exhibits all the high quality that service grade ammunition must offer.
This round features a 62 grain projectile. It’s a little heavier than most AR-15 rounds’ bullets, and will stabilize best in a 1:9 or 1:8 twist barrel. Such a bullet’s greater sectional density leaves it inherently better able to penetrate its target more deeply, and grants it greater resistance against wind drift downrange. As an FMJ, this bullet’s ability to feed reliably and prevent accelerated bore fouling makes it a must-have at the rifle range.
This round’s shell casing is new production brass, and with its non-corrosive Boxer primer will prove worth any handloader’s time. (Just note that this round’s military primer crimp will require removal at the reloading bench.) This round’s clean burning propellant is carefully loaded for a 3,060 fps muzzle velocity out of a 20” barrel.
Please note: A 5.56×45 cartridge has identical dimensions to a 223 Rem, but creates a significantly higher chamber pressure when fired. Do not load this round in a rifle designed only for 223 Rem ammunition.
