Not to be confused with .45 Auto/.45 ACP or .45 Colt, two totally different loads, this is the premium personal protection round that has been making waves of late: the .45 GAP. Designed to offer at parity or higher performance out of a round that was shorter in OAL (over all length) than the standard .45 Auto, this Glock inspired round, built by Speer/CCI in partnership has proven to be a very potent alternative that can operate at higher pressures, with less bulk and more ballistic potency than the .45 ACP.
While it doesn’t seem that many producers are utilizing the .45 GAP in normal production variants outside of Glock now, it does seem to be a mainstay there, and it has a loyal following because of the much improved velocity, penetration and the overall reduction in bulk for those who want a more compact or easier to handle physical firearm, facilitated by the GAP’s physical reduction in size over the .45 ACP.
At 1090 velocity out of the muzzle and with an energy delivery of 488, this is a potent alternative to the .45ACP. The fact that Speer/Gold Dot loads are available in it, means that you are capable of seeing the best penetration, expansion and uniformity in the caliber by way of this premium line.
