It wasn’t too long ago when cowboys ruled the Dakota Territories. You won’t see too many cattle drives going through Rapid City, South Dakota nowadays – but Black Hills still loads authentic cowboy ammunition there. This 44-40 WCF ammo performs just like it ought to have back in the 1870s!
This cartridge features an old-timey 200 grain round nose flat point bullet. It hasn’t got a jacket, because bullet jackets weren’t invented until nine years after the 44-40 WCF’s introduction. Its soft lead body and flat nose profile make it perfect for metallic silhouette shooting, cowboy action shooting, and regular old paper targets as well. And if you’re protecting your herd from coyotes, a Model 1873 loaded with this ammo is certainly going to do the trick. Its bullet’s flat meplat is safe in a tubular magazine!
Black Hills doesn’t load this ammo exactly like they would have 150 years ago. It has modern, non-corrosive Boxer primers and smokeless, clean burning propellant. It also has new production brass cases that a cowboy handloader needs to stay busy during his downtime back at the ranch.
44-40 ammo is not compatible with 44 Magnum firearms.
