While the 17 HMR is slightly flatter-shooting and has better long-range accuracy than the 22 WMR, the latter’s superior downrange energy places its performance above the former when used for targets up to 125 yards away. It is a more cost-effective ammunition as well. In that vein, the 22 WMR has nearly twice the power and momentum of a 22 LR with a bullet of the same grain.
This offering in the 22 WMR caliber by Sellier & Bellot has a copper-lead alloy jacketed hollow point 40 grain bullet, providing what may be a well-needed boost against the small game it is intended for.
