Barnes Tac-XPD handgun rounds are among the best self defense rounds for the 9mm caliber on the market today. They feature an all Copper bullet with a deeply cast hollow point design or SCHP/Solid Copper Hollow Point, 115 grain weight, +P power factor, reloadable brass cases with Boxer primers.
The 115 grain 9mm+P Tac-XPD rounds have a ballistic coefficient of .167, a muzzle energy of 323 foot pounds, and a velocity of 1125 feet per second. The bullets themselves are coated with Black Nickel and the cases are nickel-coated as well to aid functional performance.
When tested against the usual FBI barriers, the Barnes Tac-XPD rounds performed extremely well. The testing included glass from a vehicle windshield, shooting rounds through a car door, testing through various thicknesses of wood(Most often plywood), heavy multi-layer clothing, lighter clothing types, and of course, simple ballistics gel with no barrier.
