Federal’s Fusion ammunition takes the classic soft point projectile, a longtime favorite of deer hunters the world over for its affordability coupled with its dramatic terminal performance, and improves it to the point of perfection. This 6.5 Grendel round sports a 120 grain projectile with a lead core that has been formed under pressure in order to give it exceptional strength. That core has been electrochemically layered with its jacket — fused to it, if you will — so it is both greatly balanced and able to reliably retain the majority of its weight as it penetrates deeply.
This round’s soft point projectile’s rotational stability isn’t the only credit to its accuracy. It further boasts the boat tail profile needed for improved resistance to wind drift, as well as to preserve a better part of its velocity far downrange. Upon impact the core and jacket peel away to create lethal expansion. The skiving in the bullet’s tip preprograms it to do so dependably, even at long range, making this round an all-distance solution during buck season.
