Looking for some dependable range ammo that won’t cost you an arm and a leg? Well, “suchen Sie nicht weiter,” as our German friends would say, because these military surplus 308 Win cartridges are poised to save you some serious dough while still giving you the performance you need to enjoy your time at the range.
These rounds were manufactured by Chemnitzer Sportwaffen und Munitionsfabrik GmbH for use by the German military, likely in the 1990s, and have since been repackaged for sale to consumers throughout the international market. This round’s 148 grain projectile has a distinctive full metal jacket because is made from cupronickel, an alloy which is silver colored for its nickel content and magnetic because of its iron and/or manganese content. (Manganese becomes magnetic when combined with copper, you see.) In any event, it’s a strong full metal jacket that delivers all the benefits you ought to expect it to.
These rounds are brass cased, although a handloader isn’t going to get very excited by their Berdan primers. Note that these rounds’ headstamps have been shaved clean off in order to sanitize them for commercial sale, but their caliber is printed right on their casings.
