Aguila’s Minishell is an excellent choice for home defense if you prefer a pump action for the job. It’s a very small shell at only 1 3/4” long, which will effectively put almost twice as many shots at your disposal if things ever go south. You’ll also find that this little shell delivers a substantially smaller recoil along with its 1,200 fps muzzle velocity. Whether it would be for training or comfort, however you’d like to take advantage of less recoil is up to you.
This shell’s suitability for home defense also comes from its 5/8 ounce mix of 4 and 1 buckshot. Smaller buck means more of it, so you’ve got a better chance of inflicting multiple injuries on your attacker while less chance of puncturing drywall and putting your neighbor’s potted plants in jeopardy. This shell would do you right if you hunted smaller to medium-sized game with it as well.
