The classic surplus style AK-47 round, the Brown Bear has proven its worth so many times. The polymer coating on this cartridge is a new addition to the classic brown lacquered round we are familiar with from the past few decades, but the round performance hasn’t suffered in the slightest. It is still every bit as good in feeding, ignition and extraction as before. Whether you are shooting it out of an SKS, AK clone or an American gun on the AR or another platform, this ammunition just plain works.
It’s not perfect, but for the money, the only drawback of this 7.62×39 ammo is that it’s slightly dirty shooting ammunition. However, it is not corrosive. It is also a steel cased load with a Berdan primer making it hard to reload and therefore better suited to those who do not need to factor brass recycling into the mix.
The legendary 123 grain projectile is a FMJ bullet and offers excellent ballistics for the money, especially considering these rounds are newer manufacture, not the old school mil-surp we are all used to. Both loads are excellent, but this is a legitimate candidate for your 7.62×39 shooting dollars due to its updated appearance and functional design improvements as well as the price point.
